This study aimed to explore the extent to which the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools influences the productivity of designers in the government sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To achieve these objectives, the researcher employed a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative descriptive-analytical and experimental methods. The study population consisted of government sector employees in Saudi Arabia, with a sample of (42) employees selected through simple random sampling. A closed-ended questionnaire was used as the primary data collection tool, directed to government employees who represented the human scope of the research. The spatial scope was limited to government sectors within Saudi Arabia, while the temporal scope was the year (2025).
The study yielded several findings, including that the majority of participants adopt AI tools to varying degrees. It was revealed that AI significantly contributed to reducing the time required to accomplish tasks. However, the study also uncovered key challenges, most notably the limited ability of AI tools to fully capture the Saudi visual identity, along with some concerns about professional futures, albeit to a lesser degree.
The study concluded with recommendations emphasizing the importance of establishing training programs for graphic designers in government institutions to enhance their skills in using the most common AI tools. It also stressed the need to view AI as a supportive tool that complements, rather than replaces, the work of the designer. Finally, it highlighted the importance of expanding future research to include larger samples and local as well as international comparisons for a deeper understanding of AI’s impact.
